Don’t be out past dark. Don’t whistle in the woods. Don’t listen to voices in the woods. This was a good thriller with well developed characters, the author did a great job of making me not know who to trust. The story evolves from disappearances & mystery and leads us the woods of Appalachia where it dives into folklore, witches and magic. It was giving Blair Witch vibes. I had somewhat mixed feelings about the ending bc I was hoping the folklore would be more fleshed out and I was rooting for a certain character but I understand why things happened the way they did. Overall I’d recommend it. Spoilerish thoughts on the deity: The monster lover in me wishes there had been more of the deity. 🤭 Personally I feel the creature was misunderstood bc the lore mentioned if you leave food for it on Harvest moon it’ll bless your lands…I don’t see the problem here!! I think when the witches/cult came in they perverted the original bargain into human sacrifice and had somehow trapped that deity. Either way I’m glad the cryptid is now free and hope that people bring it corn and cider again 😅

This is about a group of strangers looking for their love ones that disappeared and everything leads them to the small town. As soon as they arrived in this town strange things started happening. Amy did a good job in bringing the characters to life.

Buddy movie meets creepy Appalachian horror folklore What starts out as a missing-persons case turns into something far more sinister & otherworldly. Highly recommend for fans of Stephen King & spooky campfire stories.

That was an unexpected twist! I went into the dark with this one and followed along with an unlikely group of allies (or enemies) on the search for missing loved ones. They find themselves in a spooky little town founded by a witch coven, and stir up a mess with the locals. Something dark awaits in the woods, a place you should not go, the trees have eyes and if you hear strange screams don’t go following the noise. But what if the woods is where the answers to the missing lies? Well, into the dark we go. A fun and quick read for those who enjoy spooky cults. My only knock on the book is I wish in more places there was less telling me what I was supposed to see/hear/feel and instead immerse me into feeling those myself. Allow me to decipher what it is we are supposed to feel or be seeing rather than being told. There were a lot of instances in the book where the author would write it like “this is what was in the jar” instead of painting the images inside the jar and allowing the reader to use critical thinking skills to decipher what it was. However, not everyone loves that kind of read, so take that as you will. I would recommend.

Tbh it’s a fun story but I didn’t really care about any of the characters. Lowkey they all kind of suck.

This was a perfect spooky fall read! Full of mystery, a tender romance (with a twist), and eerie Appalachian horrors, this book had me reading as fast as I could by the end. I didn’t know who to trust of the cast at any point. D G Woods kept me on my toes to the bitter end. This book is for you if you’re in the mood for forest horror set in Appalachia with complex characters and a great mystery. 🍂🦌🌲

I read this within 24 hours I think. It was well written, very atmospheric and I just had to know how it was going to play out! I just feel a little dissatisfied with some of the questions left unanswered. 3.75 ⭐️’s

I really liked this! It was a book club read so I didn't really know what to expect but this exceeded any expectations I had. Love the paranormal, spooky forest vibes, the strange mission that our FMC finds herself on, and the small town and not knowing who is the villain. Just noticing as I write this that it seems to be the start of a series but it wrapped up nicely with no cliffhanger. I'll be keeping an eye out for the next book!
