This supernatural cozy thriller was such an enjoyable read, combining fascinating folklore, a determined heroine, and just the right amount of darkness and mystery. Marianne is an Erin Brockovich-like character who refuses to sit quietly on the sidelines in the case she’s working on, even while living under the shadow of a devastating family curse. That sense of urgency gives her character, and the story itself, a compelling drive, while also showing the gravity of that weight on her shoulders in some other aspects of her life. One of my favorite characters was the Devil she summons. He’s certainly someone to fear, but he also has a moral code of his own, giving him a surprising touch of humanity. That makes him an especially interesting contrast to some of the other notable characters in the story and adds another layer to the supernatural elements. It’s also clear how much research the author put into the lore. The attention to detail and dedication to the mythology really shine through, creating an immersive, thoughtfully constructed world. The writing itself was a joy to read, and the plot never loses momentum, steadily building toward several twists that kept me guessing. A fun, atmospheric supernatural mystery with memorable characters, fascinating lore, and plenty of surprises along the way. Definitely one to pick up if you enjoy cozy thrillers with a darker edge!
